SALUDOS AMIGOS (1943)

Disney Animators go to South America to take part in the culture and record and draw what they see and experience. Along with some live action shots of the beautiful landscape, there are a few animated shorts like Goofy learning what it takes to be a cowboy in Argentina as opposed to our American version from Texas. And another about a little mail plane that has to fly over the Andes. We also get to meet Jose the parrot in this movie as he shows Donald around Rio de Janiero. While some of this was really interesting and fun to watch, sometimes the scene were just too long like the musical number about the cookie lady in Rio. I didn’t think the dancing would ever stop. But other than feeling long in places, it was an interesting watch.

THE THREE CABALLEROS (1945)

For those of you who don’t know, The Three Caballeros consist of three birds: Donald Duck, Jose Carioca from Rio de Janiero and Panchito from Mexico. In this movie, Jose and Panchito send Donald presents for his birthday that teach and show him about their different cultures and countries. Like Saludos Amigos, this movie mixes animation and live action. We get to see a short about a penguin who wants to live where it is warm and then see Donald travel to Brazil with Jose and to Mexico with Panchito. Again, some of the songs and dance numbers were a bit long but interesting. And the crazy bird we got to meet that runs around singing his “ba dop ba bop ba da da” song was a big highlight for me.

YOU WISH! (2003)

After a boy wishes he never had a brother he wishes that he never made that wish. Predictable, but it had Lalaine (Miranda from Lizzie McGuire) so that was sweet. While watching this movie we just kept trying to figure out what city it was filmed in. It was a cool looking city but didn’t look familiar. Turns out it was filmed in New Zealand. Ah, mystery solved.

PHANTOM OF THE MEGAPLEX (2000)

Halloween time! October means fall is here and Halloween is on it’s way which means it is time for Disney Halloween movies! We didn’t start out with a good Halloween movie, but this is one I am sure that young kids would enjoy since it’s a not scary scary movie. On the plus side, Mickey Rooney is randomly in this movie, as his old self randomly pops up in movies, but I loved his little song and dance number as he was entertaining people outside the movie theater. Silly old man.
