MICKEY MOUSE CLUBHOUSE: MICKEY’S ADVENTURE IN WONDERLAND (2009)

I was actually excited to check this one out because I am a huge Alice in Wonderland fan and was excited to see Mickey go there. But, Mickey didn’t really go there. The characters in Wonderland were actually just other Clubhouse characters somewhat portraying the classic Wonderland characters. Chip and Dale were Tweedledee and Tweedledum, Goofy took on the Mad Hatter-like role and I guess Minnie was the Queen? She at least was in a garden of rose bushes. Anyway, it felt more like Mickey just walking around his neighborhood than him actually being in Wonderland so that was a bummer. I am sure the young kiddos will love it though.

JOHNNY TSUNAMI (1999)

Here is another move that was filmed in Utah but has to be Vermont in the movie because Utah is not cool enough. Psh. Anyway, this movie is about a kid surfer from Hawaii who has to move to Vermont and becomes a snowboarder even though his school is purely skiers only. Johnny must unite the snowboarders and the skiers so everyone can enjoy the mountain together. Yeah that sounds cheesy but it actually is a good movie. Our only question is, are kids just really able to go skiing and snowboarding everyday after school? I am sure there are people who do, but are the filmmakers aware of how expensive it is? I live in Utah. I have gone and like to go to the slopes, but I don’t know how people could afford to do it everyday.

AIR BUDDIES (2006)

Air Bud (and the dog across the street) now has a litter of puppies of his own. The puppies are getting bigger and causing all kinds of trouble so it’s time that the puppies each find their own homes and a human to take care of. The puppies don’t want to leave their home or each other so they run away. Well good going, puppies! Now your parents have been kidnapped because some crazy person is always out to steal Air Bud. Oh great! Now the cliche bad guy with an eye patch and an accent is after the puppies. I did not see this coming! This movie is pretty cheesy but like all air bud movies, watching the cute dogs and puppies is always fun and kids will probably like it.

STITCH! THE MOVIE (2003)

This Lilo and Stitch movie, while of course not as good as the perfect original, still keeps the same charm and humor. the best things, however, about this movie was the introduction of Dr. Jacques Von Hamsterviel.  Oh how I laughed at this stupid little character. He is amazing. Apparently this movie was the start of the Lilo and Stitch TV series so I need to see if those episodes are available to watch so I can get more of Hamsterviel.

THE SECRET WORLD OF ARRIETTY (2012, US Release)

This film is about a family of borrowers that live underneath a house of humans. Borrowers are only a few inches tall and during the night they go into the house of the humans to “borrow” things they need to survive. The rules they live by: take only what you need and never be seen by humans. Arrietty’s world gets problematic when she gets seen by human boy Shawn. Oops. The movie was interesting, but I felt like there were some holes. For example, where the heck was the dad borrower when the mom got kidnapped? Arrietty runs to the rescue but we never see where the dad was when all of this went down. That bugged us. But the movie was better than I expected and I am glad I finally got to seeing it.

CARS (2006)

Yes! Pixar does it yet again. A fantastic original movie that introduces us to the fun world of cars. This movie is wildly creative, unique and just fun. I have yet to meet a person or child who does not like Cars and I really don’t want to meet anyway that does.  Side Note: If you have gone to Radiator Springs in Disneyland it’s even more fun to watch the movie and shout out, “I’ve been there!”

THE PARENT TRAP II (1986)

Hayley Mills returns as adult Susan and Sharon in this Parent Trap sequel. What is that you say? You didn’t know there was a Parent Trap sequel? Well eat your heart out because not only is there this one but there is two more after it. But before you get too excited, this movie is not that good and I can only imagine what is to come. It’s great seeing Hayley Mills reprise her role as the twins because Hayley Mills is awesome, but the story more focuses on Susan’s daughter and her best friend trying to get their parent’s together. I just want to see more of Susan and Sharon together and we don’t get much of it. But I do remember watching this as a kid and liking it, so I bet kids will like it. As an adult and fan of the original, this movie doesn’t make the cut.

ONCE UPON A MATTRESS (2005)

We were both excited for this one. It seemed like it would be fun and the cast looked promising. We are both fans of Zooey Deschanel so we were stoked. But for us it just fell flat. While the cast was talented and Zooey was great, the main story just didn’t keep our interests. Some of the songs were fun. However, I was more into the story line of Lady Larkn and her love rather than the prince, which is a problem since that love story is the main one. Some of the scenes just seemed too long and by the end we were definitely ready for the end. It just wasn’t as fun or funny as we were hoping.
