BOLT (2008)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

Bolt is a crime fighting dog with powers on a television show. The only thing is that he thinks his life as a superhero dog is, in fact, real. The movie turned out better than we expected. The story was fun and interesting and had some good humor. While it isn’t one of the greats, I think kids and adults can both enjoy it.

UNDER WRAPS (1997)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

A mummy comes back to life and a group of kids must get him back into his coffin before midnight. This was the very first DCOM, the one that started it all. The movie may be a fun little film for kids to watch on Halloween, but other than that, it can be passed over. i don’t understand why the mummy had to pee when he first woke up…he’s dead and a mummy. His organs and insides have been dried up. There should be no need to pee. Oh well.

FOLLOW ME, BOYS! (1966)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

A man moves into town and decides to become a Scout Master to give the local boys something fun and productive to do. There are some funny and fun moments and a very young Kurt Russell to check out in his first Disney role. Overall, the movie felt long and we would guess that younger children would get bored and done with it before it’s over, but if you are a scouting fan or a Scout Master, I bet you will enjoy it.

ZAPPED (2014)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

We like Zendaya. The girl is funny and for sure can dance. But even with a dancing Zendaya, this movie was not our favorite. Zendaya’s character gets an app that can control boys. I always felt bad for the boys she is controlling more than whatever hardships she was going through. This is a DCOM you can be ok with missing, but you will be able to tolerate it if you have kids that are Zendaya fans.

THE WILD (2006)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

I believe this was one of Disney’s first, if not the first, attempt at computer animation without Pixar, and it shows. The animation is definitely not at it’s best, but aside from that, the story is just not that interesting. There were moments in the story and visually that seemed to be straight from “The Lion King” and it became a little game to point them out. And yes we obviously see the similarity in the story to that of “Madagascar”. Overall, when we sat down to watch the movie, we were expecting the worse. It turned out a bit better than what we expected, but not by much.

GIRL VS. MONSTER (2012)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

While this was definitely not one of our favorite DCOMs, it would be a fun little Halloween movie for the kiddos to watch. It has a good mix of monsters and fun for little kids to think they may be watching a scary movie. As for the rest of you, feel free to skip over this one. The premise is a bit ridiculous, however, the Canadian landscape is visually pleasing.. so there is that.

HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE (2005)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

Wow, this movie was a pleasant surprise. The story was so interesting, the animation beautiful and it made us laugh. The little fat dog on his stubby little legs was the best. Can he be my pet, please? This film is just so unique. It raised questions that made us discuss why and the reason for things happening in the story. For example, Sophie’s hair color, and why she would be young sometimes when the curse of her being old was not broken yet. It was fun to discuss and interpret what we thought would be the reason and what we thought it meant. Check out the film and give it a chance. We are sure glad we did.

QUEEN OF KATWE (2016)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

Based off a true story, Queen of Katwe is about a young teenage girl who learns the game of chess and competes in tournaments in hopes of becoming a champion. We really enjoyed this movie. It was amazing to see the life this girl came from and the determination and strength she had to pursue her dream. It also put into perspective the privileged life we lead here in the states and the blessings we have. The scene where the children were so excited about eating ketchup made me think about how many things I take for granted. The younger children may get a little bored watching this movie as it is more talk than action, but I definitely recommend to everyone to check out this film.

MAX KEEBLE’S BIG MOVE (2001)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

This movie is one that I bet young viewers will find entertaining and fun. it is about a middle school kid who challenges authority, takes a stand and tries to have some fun of his own accord. While it was a bit cheesy for us and not one we say you must see, it wasn’t too bad and kids will laugh at the silly slapstick comedy.
