TANGLED BEFORE EVER AFTER (2017)

We love Tangled and were excited to see Rapunzel and Eugene (AKA Flynn Rider) come back and see more of their adventures together. With Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi reprising their roles of Rapunzel and Eugene, this movie kicks off the new series Tangled: The series, which now airs on Disney Channel. Rapunzel gets her long blonde hair back after she and a friend leave the walls of the Kingdom and venture to the same spot where the magical flower that saved the queen and gave Rapunzel the magical hair in the first place once was. While there, Rapunzel touches a rock that turns out to be magical and suddenly more rock spears pop out of the ground and chase them back. Rapunzel returns to her castle now stuck with her long hair again and has to find out what the magical rocks are, why her hair is back and how to get rid of it. Whew. Overall, the movie was ok. It has some humor and seems a good start to the series, but we did get bored and it felt long at times. The kids, however, will love it.

THE CHEETAH GIRLS 2 (2006)

In this sequel,The Cheetah Girls go to Barcelona to enter a singing competition and that is believable I guess.  The movie plot follows a similar story line where they are a group and then fight and get distracted with other things but then makeup, except they do it in Spain. Some songs are good, some not so much and the beginning of their performance at the competition is super cheesy and awkward. But I feel like The Cheetah Girls movies are DCOMs you just need to check out eventually.

LEMONADE MOUTH (2011)

Five students meet in detention and form a band. It is a great story about kids finding their voice, expressing who they are and just getting through life with the help of your friends. The music in this movie is actually good. I love the “Determinate” song. It gets stuck in my head. I think teens could really relate to and enjoy this movie as well as adults since it deals with stuff I think everyone has either gone through or is going through. And it makes me seriously want to try that lemonade.

CINDERELLA (1997)

We both remember the premiere of this movie on Wonderful World of Disney, Sunday nights on ABC. I remember it being a family affair. We all gathered around the TV, popcorn in hand and waited to see Whitney Houston and Brandy take on the classic fairy tale. I remember being so excited. I had heard about it for weeks, months probably, and couldn’t wait for the show to start. I also remember really liking it as a kid and re-watching the tape (remember the days when you would stick in a tape in the VCR to record your favorite shows?). I was ready to watch it again since I hadn’t seen it since that time. Some of the same thoughts came flooding back, like how does a black lady and a white man make an Asian baby? Is he adopted? And I still like that “Impossible” song sung by Whitney Houston and Brandy. I still sing the word impossible instead of saying it. But watching the movie as an adult, it just doesn’t have the charm that I remembered. The first half of the movie was good and moved quickly, but the second half just seemed to drag on and on. the ballroom scene was forever long. We don’t need to see these random people dance in circles over and over. We just don’t. Get to Cinderella and the Prince. They are who we care about. It’s a fun movie to check out, but not nearly as great as we once remembered.

THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG (2009)

After we got back from a cruise that went out of the New Orleans port, and having spent a couple days there to check out the city, we had to come home and watch “The Princess and the Frog”. That way when we watched the movie we could yell, “I’ve been there”. If you haven’t seen the movie, you have probably deduced by now that it takes place in New Orleans. It was a lot of fun to watch the movie after having just come back from the city. We now knew the buildings and places that the background drawings were based. The animation is so beautiful, the music riveting and the characters are so lovable. I mean, if you don’t like Ray the firefly, I don’t want to know you. Just get outta here…and then watch this movie again because Ray is awesome.

SHARPAY’S FABULOUS ADVENTURE (2011)

To finish off all the High Shool Musical sequels and spin offs we have to sit down and women up to watch Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure. Sharpay wasn’t even Sharpay, she was more Sharpayesque. And I’m sorry, but Sharpay is not this super crazy talented girl with most incredible voice ever. If you keep having to say your main character is oh so talented, I think there is a problem. The songs in this movie just didn’t seem to do Ashley Tisdale any justice. “Fabulous” does reappear in the background though, and that is a good song. The best part about the movie… the two dogs in love. So cute.

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3 (2008)

Not as good as the first two but still a fun watch. You can definitely tell this was released in theaters as opposed to just the Disney Channel like its predecessors. A bigger budget was definitely evident, however it still kept in the tone of the others. This movie focuses on the problems that high-schoolers have about graduating and the future and the worrying. Guess what guys, life goes on and it gets worse…also better, also worse.

THE CHEETAH GIRLS (2003)

I remember liking this a lot more than I did watching it this time. We love Raven, but this movie was not great. They are supposed to be this awesomely talented girl group but the songs are not that great and the ending scene made no sense. Why do all the girls just happen to be wearing matching outfits when they come down to help. They were all in a fight. They weren’t talking to each other. So when they saw their friend needed help, did they decide they needed to change to match the outfit she was wearing just in case they end up doing a performance? Guess so.

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL (2006)

How handy that this year is High School Musical’s 10 year anniversary. Since we saw that Disney channel was re-airing them in celebration, we figured it was time to watch them to check off the list. We totally jumped onto the High School Musical band wagon when it came out. Although it has it’s cheesy moments, it is a good movie. The music is great, the dancing, the actors, the story, all great. My favorite scene by far is the Status Quo musical number in the cafeteria. Oh those silly kids. And filmed in Utah! I know exactly where East High is. It exists. The one big criticism for this movie…Kids are not allowed to wear hats in school!
