Wow. This movie is weird. Creative, but weird. Why does Ponyo want so badly to leave her family and be human and live with the human family? Is Ponyo a fish? How is she a fish if her father looks human and her mother is some ocean goddess? Or is Ponyo a goddess in the making? How did Ponyo’s father and Mother meet and get together? This story left me with so many questions. And the boy Ponyo meets is only 5. Why did his mother leave him alone in the house, let alone the fact that is was during an awful storm? That shouldn’t be. I am glad I finally checked out this movie. While the animation is beautiful and the weirdness of the story is actually part of it’s appeal, I don’t think it’s one I need to recommend as a must see.
