RETURN TO HALLOWEENTOWN (2006)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

Why oh WHY, Disney, did you replace a new actress to play Marnie, the lead character?!?! The Halloweentown movies seem to have gotten a little worse as they went on and took a bigger dive with this one. We really believe that this movie should not have been made if they were not able to get the same actress for Marnie. It was difficult to believe that Sara Paxton was Marnie. It wasn’t that she was a bad actress, but because we have had three other movies with Kimberly J. Brown playing the character we have gotten to know. We also weren’t really liking or into the story of this movie either. It was weird even for Halloweentown.

THE WONDERFUL ICE CREAM SUIT (1998)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

This movie was so strange it was fun. A group of men can’t individually afford a beautiful vanilla ice cream colored suit but together that can pool their money and share the suit of their dreams. The movie is about the men each taking a turn wearing the suit and the adventures they have in the hour they have it on out in the town. There are musical numbers, a fight, a car chase, and a sweet romance. So much is happening that you will continually be asking yourself what is going on, but just accepting it all anyway. Don’t go out of your way to see the movie, but if you get a chance to check it out, I would.

HOME ON THE RANGE (2004)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

I was not looking forward to this movie as I have always heard it is not great. And while I agree it is definitely not great, it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. That doesn’t mean that I believe you should give this movie a chance. You don’t need to, but watching the bounty hunter do his little yodeling number to hypnotize the cows was worth it. That was crazy.

MICKEY’S HOUSE OF VILLAINS (2002)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

This is a fun little film to watch during the Halloween season with the family. The villains decide to take over at Mickey’s House of Mouse. If you don’t know the set up of the House of Mouse shows, Mickey Mouse owns a club where all his friends can come and watch various short cartoons. So basically it is a movie with various Halloween cartoons. In between the cartoons, there is a story about Mickey getting back his club from the Disney villains. Although the scenes at the club are cheap animation, the cartoons are good classic ones that kids and adults will enjoy.

HALLOWEENTOWN HIGH (2004)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

The third installment of the DCOM Halloweentown movies. Marnie has decided to take charge in kids from Halloweentown going to school in the mortal world as part of an exchange student type program. Of course magical trouble of sorts follows and Marnie must battle to save the world as well as her family’s magic. Not as good as the second movie, which wasn’t as good as the first, this movie still has some charm. A couple of pre-High School Musical cast members are in the film, and it was another filmed in Utah, which is fun for us. I do believe that if you liked the previous two, though, you will enjoy this one.

THE ADVENTURES OF ICHABOD AND MR. TOAD (1949)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

This is a Disney classic. If you haven’t seen this then, what the heck? How will you know what the Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride is from in Disneyland? They are both fun short movies that I think every Disney fan needs to see at least once in their lifetime. Mr. Ichabod’s story is also a classic about the headless horseman. A perfect scary little tale for the kids to watch on Halloween. I didn’t remember Mr. Ichabod being so cocky though…that son of a gun. Anyway, if you haven’t seen this or it has been a while go ahead and take a gander as it just provides good ole classic Disney fun.

ANGELS IN THE OUTFIELD (1994)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

We both remember loving this film when we were kids. I always thought it was funny. Plus I thought Joseph Gordon-Levitt was cute. It’s a story of a boy who prays that the Los Angeles Angels will win the pennant because his dad said they will be a family again if they do. Angels are then sent to help the baseball team get to the championship. It is a fun story and a good movie. We recommend you see it if you haven’t already.

NIKKI, WILD DOG OF THE NORTH (1961)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

Wow, this movie was stressful. The adventures that dog went through were FREAKING US OUT! When the dog and the bear were roped together, we freaked out. [MINOR SPOILER ALERT] When the dog almost ate poison, we freaked out. When the big bear attacked the little bear, we freaked out. When the dog was forced to fight in dog fights, we freaked the heck out! So must stress in this movie and welfare of the precious animals. The story itself isn’t the most entertaining or fun, but it is a bit interesting. If you are an animal lover and dare to watch this movie…we warned you.

THE MOON-SPINNERS (1964)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

Not even the great Hayley Mills could keep us interested in this one. The story felt slow and seemed to drag on and on. It was supposed to be a suspenseful movie, but we just couldn’t really get into it much. The suspense would keep getting put on hold by long scenes where not much happened except a lot of talk. I think it would have been better if it was cut down in length. The action may be a bit stressful for young kids and they may get bored.  As for adults, you may like it, but we weren’t fans.

JOHNNY TREMAIN (1957)

[ezcol_1fifth]    [/ezcol_1fifth] [ezcol_4fifth_end]

This story takes place at the beginning of the American Revolutionary War in Boston. Johnny Tremain is a fictional character that was there for the Boston Tea Party and fought at the Battle of Lexington and Concord. It was interesting for us to watch this movie as we recently returned from a trip to these exact locations. If you wanted to show a movie to your kids about the start of the Revolutionary War, I think this would be a good one. It may get boring for young kids, but overall, it’s not too bad.
